Over the summer, the Jordon School District split in half. There is still the Jordan School District, but the new district is called Canyons School District. So the question was asked, which teams will RHS be playing?
The District Split has no effect on RHS sports, according to Athletic Director Gordon Hinckley. The change of teams is a routine realignment.
RHS has a new team in region three, and that school is Taylorsville High School. Also, with the addition of Taylorsville, region three lost a school. The school that is no longer in region three is Hunter High.
According to Coach Jacob Garlick, the switch is an even trade.
When asked if the split would have any impact on RHS sports, Garlick said, “It will allow more playing time and possible varsity spots for athletes, due to the population reduction.”
Taylorsville High Principal Jerry Haslam says he feels that it is great to be in the same region with RHS.
“I have worked with, or competed against many of the current coaches and administrators at RHS over the past 30 years,” said Haslam.
Geographically, the trade of getting Taylorsville and losing Hunter made sense because Taylorsville is more in the vicinity of the region three teams.
