Quarterback Eric Thoreson Pushes Himself on and off the Field

By Mike Hogan

“Eric has athletic ability I only dreamed of when I played.”

Those are the words that Quarterback Coach Sean Jaussi used to describe Eric Thoreson, varsity quarterback.

Thoreson seems to have impressed all the coaches of the football team. Head Coach, Mike Miller, praises his toughness, brains, and patience.

“Eric has learned our system and has also helped our system expand,” said Miller.

Both coaches relayed how often he surprises them with how on target he is when he throws the ball.

Most coaches and players will say that he is different on and off the field, but Thoreson seems to have a different attitude about it.

“When you put on that helmet, it’s a completely different attitude,” he revealed.

Thoreson does seem to have quite a passion for football. He recently attended two football camps one at Dixe State College, and another one at camp williams.

One of Thoreson’s favorite pre-game excercises is when the whole football team gets together, and starts to chant to get hyped up.

Thoreson doesn’t have a least favorite memory of his football career, saying simply, “It’s all good.”

Teammate Landon Fischer, a junior, has respect for Thoreson as well.

“He is a true leader. He isn’t a typical quarterback that bosses people around. He has really brought the team together. He isn’t loud but really leads from example,” said Fisher.

Thoreson keeps a level head about schoolwork as well, taking it very seriously.

“School always comes first,” he said. “That’s why they call it student-athlete.”

He also expressed a goal to become a physical therapist when he grows older.

Thoreson keeps very busy, with school work and football, but he’s also part of the high school baseball team, where he plays outfield and pitcher.

While some people look up to him, Thoreson has a different role model.

“I look up to my brother. He helps me with football as well as other things.”

Running Back Shawn Harris, a Junior, couldn’t really find anything bad to say about Thoreson.

“He is such a cool kid and nice to everyone. Overall he is just a great guy,” said Harris.

Harris also said, “I consider Eric a leder, because he stays focused on the goal at hand and knows what he needs to do to get things done.

Coach Jaussi seems to have his quarterback summed up in a nutshell.

“He always works hard in practice.

He gets his teammates ready. He’s the first out to practice, Among the last to leave, he is constantly searching for ways to improve,” said Jaussi.

Fighting for a play-off postion it would seem that RHS football has little to worry about with Thoreson as quarterback.
