New Theme Represents School’s Spirit

The 2009-2010 school theme assembly was filled with excitement as the new principal Brad Sorensen opened with lively energy for the new year. He expressed how thrilled he was for the beginning of this year.

The SBOs and class officers had to go on a search for our new theme after previous principal, Stephen Park’s mission had been terminated. On their quest, the sophomores, juniors, and seniors had to follow a series of clues to find their key to a treasure chest that had the theme hidden inside.

The sophomore class officers started the assembly out as characters from “Where the Wild Things Are,” frantically searching for their hidden key in the wilderness.

After they found their key, the junior class officers, as “Transformers,” had to go and find theirs as well. Eventually, the senior class officers, as “Harry Potter” characters, found their key.

All three classes met at the treasure chest to figure out whose key would open the box.

The senior class officers had the key. And when they opened the box, it revealed a lever that they had to pull to reveal this year’s theme, “Alive.”

The idea of this year’s theme is to bring RHS students together. The word “alive” has a variety of meanings for different people. RHS needs to feel alive as a school.

Participating in school activities such as Silver Rush, cannot only help yourself but help spread the feeling of being alive.

SBO President Fota Mulitalo said, “We want to get the students more involved in the school by providing more activities for them to participate in.”

Mulitalo talked about the possibilities of new activities such as tailgate parties during home games and other activities as well.

“My opinion about this year’s theme is that it’s one word with multiple meanings. To me it’s a word of multiple possibilities,” said junior Sydni Hatton.

RHS’s 2009-2010 school theme “Alive” is going to be the start of the biggest school in the state coming together.

The students participated fully in the assembly. Whether it was being excited about certain songs in the various videos or standing and clapping for Mulitalo and 2008 SBO President Sam Butterfield, this assembly shows how RHS can be alive.
