With a total of 10 wins and seven losses the RHS girl soccer team ends their season. The team said they were happy with their season.
They had their ups, like the game against Judge at Rio Tinto, they were in control of the pace of the game and came from behind to beat them said coach Paul Moizer. And they have their downs such as not winning the region games in the past two years.
Moizer said, “I am pleased with the season, the team improved and played some great soccer. I feel like we made some great progress and have a strong foundation for next year.”
The girls seem to be level headed and supportive of each other. Of course, they are competitive, but they try not to be competitive with each other. They understand that there is no “I” in team, and you’re only as strong as your weakest player.
Senior Caitlyn Jacobson said, “We had a lot of potential this season. I think one of our problems was some of us just didn’t have the heart and got lazy. We also had a trust problem so the ball wasn’t passed.”
The outside lives of the girls don’t seem to have an effect on their performance on the field. For two hours every day, the girls get to escape and not think about boys, friends, school or family, but get to focus on doing their best at something they love.
Moizer said, “The practices and games give them a chance to escape and just play. Of course every player gets stressed, but they don’t let it show. Plus, it’s hard to think about anything when you think your legs are going to fall off or your lungs are going to explode.
The girls actually want their coaches to push them. They all agree that the harder they are pushed the better they will play.
Jade Colebrook said, “Hard work comes from the heart.”
Like in any sport everyone likes winning but not only does Moizer like the feeling a winning game s gives but he thinks winning validates what they are working on and shows the team the results of hard work. It’s much harder to sell hard work when you lose a lot.
“It’s tough to single out one player, so many players were key to what we did. Amanda Matthews and Katie Bodily great at forward. Jade Colebrook was very solid in goal, and I could go on. It’s hard to identify one as more important than another in a game like soccer. Fortunately we had a very solid group.” said Moizer.
The team enjoyed their season and think it was a success.
