Saturday, October 17, RHS had their girls’ pref dance. The theme was “Wild Thing” and it `was held in the gym.
The dance started at 7:00 p.m., and ended at 10:00 p.m. Costumes were the dress for the dance. Students were not allowed to wear masks, but face paint was acceptable.
Glow sticks, like masks, weren’t allowed into the dance either. Students who brought them were asked to leave.
Students came in a variety of costumes. Spray painted T-shirts and other creatively made shirts were popular to see.
“[The theme] was a great idea. It was perfect because it went with October and Halloween,” said Robynn Clayton, senior FFA member, “and costumes went with the theme, so we just went with it.”
With the theme “Wild Thing,” various students came in “Where the Wild Things Are” merchandise. Groups came in wide variety of T-shirts.
Sonja Ferrufino and Cody Henrichsen were the teachers in charge of planning the dance. Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Debate also helped with dance preparations.
FFA put cut outs of shadow characters from “Where the Wild Things Are” and posted them at the top of the walls. The pumpkins and other Halloween decorations were positioned by Debate.
The dance didn’t have as many attendants as homecoming did. The gym wasn’t filled, and the energy didn’t last long. By 9:20 p.m., most of the attendants had left.
“[Girls pref.] didn’t even compare to homecoming. I thought the theme was awesome. It made it super fun, but it wasn’t as awesome as homecoming,” said Talon Doucette, junior, “I still had a lot of fun at the dance, I made some fun memories.”
The pictures had a haunted looking background. Fake cobwebs tangled in a dead tree and a headstone was set up for the surroundings.
