Silver Diner’s first “Mentor and Mentee”, also known as M and M, lunch was held at the Silver Diner, the school restaurant, on Friday, October 16. The meal was three $ for a side-salad appetizer, lasagna for the main dish and for dessert all participating teachers received a free cherry brownie.
One point of the M and M is “to allow new teachers to work with a seasoned teacher to allow them to collaborate on teaching methods and strategies to use in the classroom,” said Richard Griffiths, Silver Diner adviser.
But that is not the only reason that the lunch is held once every six weeks.
“[Its] one of the few times that teachers can let their hair down, it’s cool. Incredibly cool,” said Donna Hunter, English teacher.
According to Hunter, RHS is the only school in the district that does this meal to give the teachers an opportunity to get to know one another better in an appropriate atmosphere.
“It is my understanding that our application is unique to Riverton,” said Griffiths.
The Silver Diner’s opening is October 22 and 23, serving an Italian meal of minestrone soup, lasagna or fettuccine Alfredo and a cherry brownie. The Diner serves all three lunches, for only teachers, but will have student days that will start in November on Fridays. The Diner will only accept cash or checks. School accounts, credit or debit cards will not be accepted.
“Being on Silver Diner is fun! And I feel comfrontable cooking with everyone here,” said Ashley Evans, Senior.
