Helping students and children from harming themselves is what McKaylee Palmer does every day. As a member of Peer Leadership Team (PLT), she has the opportunity to teach many people.
PLT is a group of about 40 students who get the opportunity to teach sixth graders about substance abuse. They also help with many school activities such as Silver Rush and other fund raisers.
Last year, Palmer thought it would be fun to join PLT after seeing many of her friends hurt themselves by doing drugs. She believes that they are harming themselves and also their futures.
While the PLT students work individually, they also strive as a whole group.
“We have to learn to be leaders, be mature, and be out of our comfort zone,” said Palmer.
Palmer is affected as well as the friends and family of a person that chooses to do drugs. She tries to help as many people as she can while still upholding her other activities.
“She listens to others if they need help,” said junior Kaitlyn Kingery, Palmers best friend.
Palmer is also a member of the RHS lacrosse team. It is something she enjoys doing. She also enjoys snowboarding, relaxing, dancing, and being with friends.
The biggest influence in her life is her mom, Dena Palmer. Palmer says she is great.
“She made me the person I am today and has taught me to choose the right choices,” said Palmer.
In the future, Palmer would like to be a psychologist. She loves helping people with their problems and talking to them about it. PLT is helping many kids and also helping Palmer make her future.
