Smoking cigarettes is known for the health problems they cause. They can cause asthma, bronchitis, and lung cancer. The new Electronic Cigarettes (E-Cigarettes) takes away a many of these health risks.
According to the E-Cigarettes Choice website (www.ecigaretteschoice.com) standard cigarettes discharge about 4,000 identifiable chemicals, of which 69 are known to cause cancer. E-cigarettes contain below 10 to 20 chemicals on average, depending on the brand or strength purchased.
“Secondhand smoke is eliminated, then virtually secondhand cancer patients will become extinct,” said an RHS student smoker.
E-Cigarettes look, taste, and feel similar to real cigarettes. The cigarette body is an integrated formation made up of a cartridge, an atomization chamber, a smart chip controller and built in lithium battery.
The atomization chamber is the part of the device that is responsible for creating the vapor like smoke. This vapor is inhaled and gives the user the nicotine consumption that smokers crave.
The vapor released is simply condensation that evaporates into the air within seconds. E-Cigarettes leave no visual remains in the air and are odorless.
The E-Cigarette is electronic. This makes E-Cigarettes more mobile and customers are able to set it down anywhere they like.
According to the Healthy Cigarettes website (healthycigarettes.org), having no second hand smoke coming from the cigarette means users can smoke wherever. There is no harmful secondhand smoke and air polluting.
According to E-Cigarettes Choice, the tastes of the E-Cigarettes is similar to tobacco but also has its own flavors. E-cigarettes come in multiple flavors, depending on the brand.
“Cigars have flavors and sell a lot, why would having them in E-Cigarettes be any different? This is great for users and suppliers,” said the student smoker.
The E-Cigarettes are a healthier choice for smokers. Buying the product would be a better investment than hurting the environment with standard cigarettes.
E-Cigarettes Dangerous, Potentially Illegal

The “E-Cigarette,” has been hailed as a safer alternative to smoking, but as of July the FDA has stated that the popular substitute is actually more dangerous, and in fact illegal.
The product works by spewing hot puffs of smokeless gas into the user’s mouth that have a similar feel to cigarette smoke.
In July, the FDA tested two brands, “Njoy,” and “Smoking Everywhere,” with various problems discovered, including diethylene glycol, an extremely deadly anti-freeze ingredient found in one of the gas cartridges, and various cartridges marked “nicotine free,” actually contained the addictive substance.
The conference, held on July 22, suggested that the E-cigarette was marketed specifically to children, with the high tech name, and appealing look.
Jonathan Winickoff, MD, chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics warned the product would “addict kids to nicotine and turn them into smokers.”
The FDA has concluded that the candy, and fruit flavors found in the E-cigarette cartridges actually entices people to smoke, mitigating the claim that the product supposedly helps smokers quit real cigarettes.
During the press conference, Michael Ericksen, director of the public health institute at Atlanta Georgia State University said, “I have seen no evidence that people switch from tobacco cigarettes to E-cigarettes or other smokeless tobacco products. If you look at how smokeless tobacco products are marketed, they are sold as something to use when you can’t smoke. The implication is you will increase nicotine exposure, not reduce smoking.”
While the E-cigarette may not contain harmful smoke, it’s still just as, if not more dangerous than inhaling a regular “Camel,” or “Marlboro” cigarette.
