Tiwi is a new overpriced and distracting electronic device designed to help teens with safer driving. It’s a computer that instantly reports driving violations such as speeding, aggressive turns and hard breaking. Parents can then monitor their kids’ driving. Tiwi sends texts, phone calls and e-mails alerting parents of their teen’s unsafe driving habits. Parents can call their teens through Tiwi right after they receive alerts. It also has an E-call emergency assistance feature allowing help for your child when they need it.
Driver’s Education teacher, Steve Galley, said it is an excellent product because of its instant feedback feature.
But Tiwi could also be distracting, by yelling at a driver’s mistakes, and it startling the driver and causing wrecks. It could also be distracting if our parents were talking to us through Tiwi.
Tiwi’s biggest downside is the cost. Advertisements say it’s affordable. But according to the Tiwi website (tiwi.com), the cost of a Tiwi is $299, plus a $60 installation fee.
It’s stupid to spend this much money on something like this when it can be prevented by making sure people are skilled and responsible enough to be driving on their own.
