With jerseys, team shirts, and uniforms lining the walls, patrons who walk in will feel like they are walking inside the school. Located on 2845 W. 12600 S., the newest restaurant in the Jumbo Burger franchise can be noted as a tribute to RHS.
That’s because the interior of Jumbo Burger was decorated by the RHS Interior Design II class, taught by Jana Pendleton.
“Everything on the walls was donated from the clubs, teams, and departments of the school. The only thing the Interior Design class added was the wooden letters that spell out ‘Riverton Silverwolves’ on the wall,” Pendleton said.
Pendleton also said the owners of Jumbo Burger went to the school, asking if there was an interior design class that could decorate the inside of the restaurant. From there, Assistant Principal Curtis Hagen went to Pendleton to ask if her class would be willing to decorate it.
“It was exciting to have the opportunity to do a project. It was also a little intimidating in case it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to,” Pendleton said.
“I loved it. I thought it was so much fun to be able to decorate it because we got to put our work to real use,” said senior Ashley Miller, one of the Interior Design II students who helped decorate.
Decorations donated from various groups at the school include cheerleader outfits and pictures, track uniforms, baseball jerseys, baseball and softball bats, drill outfits and pictures, posters from different theatrical productions, and all 10 RHS yearbooks.
Although the interior may be comforting, the food does not measure up to the standard it sets. The bacon cheeseburger had a peculiar taste to it, one that cannot be described. The patty was squished to a measly 1/8 inch thick, and the cheese was not melted to the patty. The fries were crispy, but too crispy for liking.
However, the prices were somewhat reasonable for a fast-food restaurant. The most expensive dish was a plate of steak and shrimp at $11.99, whereas the famous Greek dessert, Baklava, was priced at $1.74 per order.
The order was ready to eat within 10 minutes. However, no one else was in the restaurant at the time of the order.
For anyone looking for a quick bite to eat and something different than the typical McDonald’s or Wendy’s, Jumbo Burger will suffice.
