SLCC Concurrent Enrollment Concurrent Enrollment classes are courses juniors and seniors can enroll in and take for potential college credit at Riverton High School. Riverton has a joint partnership with both Salt Lake Community College and Utah State University. High school credit is applied to student's permanent high school transcript, and college credit is applied to student's permanent SLCC transcript. C.E. students use the same textbooks/syllabus and take the same exams as regular college students. Most colleges and universities in Utah accept C.E. credit. Cost for SLCC Concurrent Enrollment: $35.00 Admissions Application Fee (good for two years). There is no additional charge to students regardless of the number of courses taken. Students may be required to purchase a textbook. The cost of books varies depending upon the course. Prerequisites: English 1010, Math 1010, and Math 1050 all require prerequisites identified below. Art 1060, History/Art Lettering/Calligraphy - SLCC: This course is s study of the development of lettering throughout history. Several historic alphabets are studied and written. Various writing fluids and papers are explored. An introduction to bookmarking is part of this course. May be extra costs for this course. Art 1310, Photography I - SLCC: This course includes discussion and operation of film and digital SLR cameras, along with film and digital lab techniques. Fully adjustable digital or film SLR camera and other photo equipment are required. Art 1800, Digital Media Essentials - SLCC: Students receive an introduction to software and hardware used to create multimedia productions. Hands-on experience using hardware, software, to create 2D/3D graphics, sound, animation, and video. Discussion of the multimedia market, copyright, and ethics in mass media. CIS 1020, Computer Essentials - SLCC: A hands-on introduction to problem solving using computer tools. Basic hardware and office software products topics are discussed. English 1010, Introduction to Writing (Seniors Only) - SLCC: Prerequisite: CPT Score from SLCC, or ACT (20 Reading Score). Development of critical literacies - reading, writing, and thinking - using methods of knowledge making, including person, collaborative, visual, and textual methods. Promote awareness of rhetorical strategies as they apply to a variety of socio-cultural contexts. Financial Literacy 1050, Personal Finance - SLCC: Study of financial skills essential for economic success. Subjects: Financial planning, financial services, income taxes, consumer buying, insurance, retirement planning, and estate planning. Humanities 1100, Intro to Humanities (Seniors only) - SLCC: This course explores the humanities through the arts and intellectual traditions, showing how they relate to concurrent societies. It includes critical discussion of art forms (visual art, music, literature, drama and film). Marketing 1010, Customer Service Tech - SLCC: This course studies the basic service skills in business. It looks at the management of conflict, stress, professionalism, time management, and telephone usage. It deals with internal and external customer service concepts. Marketing 1030, Introduction to Marketing - SLCC: This course students receive a basic understanding of marketing principles and consumer-to-business relationships that influence consumer behavior. Math 1010, Intermediate Algebra (Alg. II) - SLCC: Prerequisite: CPT Score from SLCC or ACT (18 Math). Linear and quadratic equations; inequities; polynominals; rational expressions, radicals, negative and rational exponents; complex numbers; linear systems, introduction to functions; logarithms, and exponential functions. Math 1050, College Algebra - SLCC: Prerequisite: Math 1010 with C grade, CPT Score from SLCC, or ACT (23 in Math). College Algebra satisfies quantitative literacy requirements for students planning to take Calculus. Topics: polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, matrices; conics; sequences and series; and mathematical induction. Math 1060, Trigonometry - SLCC: Prerequisite: Math 1050 with "C" grade or CPT Score from SLCC. Trigonometric functions and their graphs developed using circular and triangular methods including inverses; polar coordinates; and an introduction to vectors. Utah State Concurrent Enrollment - EdNet College level courses are offered at RHS through USU via a distance format, called EdNet. These courses are offered to junior or seniors who have a minimum 3.00 GPA. High school credit is applied to student's permanent high school transcript, and college credit is applied towards student's permanent USU transcript. Classroom instruction is given by a USU Professor via television projection. Students and professor communicate during the class via microphone. Students use same textbooks/syllabus and take the same exams as regular USU students. Most colleges and universities in Utah accept concurrent enrollment credit. Cost: Students may be required to purchase a textbook. The cost of book varies based on the course. USU C.E. tuition is free for up to 30 USU semester credit hours per academic year. Courses offered 1st Semester '08-09: History 1700, American Civilization - USU: This course covers the fundamentals of American History from exploration and colonization to the present with emphasis on historical, political, social and economic events. Personal Finance 1050, - USU: Study of financial skills essential for economic success. Subjects: financial planning, financial services, income taxes, consumer buying, insurance, retirement planning, and estate planning. Psychology 1010, General Psychology - USU: Explores basic areas of psychology, and how each explains human thought and behavior at the individual, familial, and cultural levels. Science 1360, Integrated Physical Science - USU: An interdisciplinary course focusing on basic concepts of physical science, including structure of matter and magnitude and character of the forces of nature. Demonstrates the role of modeling, prediction, and observation in the process of scientific discovery, which occurs in an historical and social context.
