Purpose

 

Meetings

Meetings are held monthly (9 are offered).

Activities

Besides regular monthly meetings, there are other opportunities for service such as helping at parent teacher conferences, tutoring, escorting special needs students to activities or other projects requested my administrators.

Membership

In order to qualify for membership in the National Honor Society (NHS), a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.7
  • Attend a minimum of 4 years service meetings per year
  • Pay yearly dues ($15.00 the first year, $10.00 each succeeding year
  • Complete 8 hours of service over the school year - a minimum of 4 must be done with the group, the remainder may be individual hours
  • Three documents must be turned in by each student: an application for NHS, a district permission to join a club form, and the receipt for dues paid before a student becomes a member

Seniors and Juniors may join at any time from the beginning of the year up until the start of the second semester.

Sophomores are required to be a student at Riverton High School for one semester before they may join the National Honor Society.

A member that resigns or is dismissed is not eligible to join again.

Officers

The president conducts meetings, helps in the induction ceremony and end of year election meetings, and helps plan and organize monthly service activities

The vice presidents (2) prepares announcements, helps in the induction ceremony and end of year election meetings, and helps plan and organize monthly service activities.

The Secretary writes thank you notes when appropriate, keeps a journal of activities for the scrapbook, helps in the induction ceremony and end of year election meetings, and helps plan and organize monthly service activities.

The Historian takes pictures of activities throughout the year for the scrapbook, helps in the induction ceremony and end of year election meetings, and helps plan and organize monthly service activities.

All officers must be in good standing and are selected by only those members in attendance at the final meeting in May.
