In an effort to increase communication to our parents and stakeholders,
we invite you to participate in our parent text messaging and email service.
By doing so, you will receive weekly messages providing you
with information regarding Riverton High events, news, and
in the event of an emergency, instructions from the school.

Students:

Students do better in school when they participate in extra-curricular activities
and have information about the school. All students are invited to participate
in our student text messaging service. Students will receive weekly text messages
regarding Riverton events, reminders, and in cases of emergency, instructions
on how to remain safe. These text messages will NOT be sent
during class instruction time. Students will still be expected to have all cell
phones and electronic devices shut off and put away during class time.

New Payment System Brings Online Convenience to
Jordan School District Parents

The  Jordan School District now provides convenience to parents by offering a new online payment

Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams

Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Track & Field teams;
both won 2010 State 5A Championships


Drama

The Riverton High School State Drama Team was awarded a Straight Superior
5A School (only 5 were awarded out of 22 schools) and our play (The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza) took Straight Superiors from all 3 judges. 


Jordan Education Foundation Scholarship

Jessica Taggart was one of five students to receive this $1,000 scholarship
for her dedication to education and desire to continue to achieve.

 Utah Theatre Conference

Julie Platt won one of three Outstanding Student Playwright Awards. Out of 60 plays that were student written, her play was selected to be read by UVU student acting majors. She won a $100 cash award

Andrew Nokes won a cash award of $250 for Outstanding Technical Theatre Work. This award was chosen by technical theatre professors from throughout the state. Andrew will also be offered technical theatre scholarships to various schools.

National FFA Convention

Jessie McClellan, Cassie Tolhurst, Natalie McClellan, Brenda Hodgdon, Shelby Stauffer and Janae Labonte received a bronze medal for their debate on the advantages and disadvantages of Country of Origin Labeling or COOL.

Shelby Stauffer and Nicole Lochhead, Cassie Tolhurst and
Jessie McClellan all placed 5th in the nation with their science fair projects.

Teacher and Staff Awards 2009-2010

Jordan Education Foundation
Teacher of the Year

Jay Hales received this award based on his excellent teaching of students. He has helped students win scholarships as high as $30,000. He teaches his students to think for themselves enabling their problem solving skills


Emily Corfield was named the Southwest area Chamber of Commerce
Teacher of the Year for Riverton High School

Sonja Ferrufino is the Agriscience Teacher of the Year

Clin Eaton, Drama Teacher, was selected as the 2009 Teacher of the year by the Utah National Parks Council, Gingerbread House Festival, Learning for Life


Cody Henrichsen, Forensic teacher. Mr. Henrichsen led the Riverton HS Chapter to earn the Leading Chapter Award in the Sundance District.

April Squires, adviser of The Silver Scribe Newspaper, was selected to serve as a trustee in a new organization, called NewFourth, to teach
journalism practices in grades K-12.

Firearm and Firearm Facsimile Warning

Possessing a Facsimile of a Weapon May Result
in 180-day Suspension from School

Poseer un facsímil de una arma puede resultar en 180-días de suspención

Students and parents are reminded that a new federal law prohibits the use or possession of a weapon or a facsimile of a weapon on school premises. The most popular facsimile of weapons to date include the popular Air-soft guns. The law is very clear that students possessing a facsimile of a weapon at school, regardless of intent, may be suspended for 180 days.

Estudiantes y padres, recuérdense que una nueva ley federal prohibe el uso o posesión de una arma o facsímil de una arma en los locales escolares.  El más popular facsímil de una arma hoy día incluye la arma popular que se llama “Air-soft guns”.  La ley es muy clara que estudiantes que poseen una facsímil de una arma en la escuela, a pesar del intento, puede ser suspendido por 180 días.
